I oppose granting a special exemption for a duplex conversion. The West Hills neighborhood is among Knoxville's most stable and desirable single family residential neighborhoods. It has been surrounded by duplexes, condos, and other multi-occupant residential developments. Encroachment into the neighborhood will undermine the neighborhood's character, which would be bad not only for its residents but for the city (which has few equivalently attractive and high demand neighborhoods). Preserving the character of West Hills is good for all. If the owner wants a duplex, it can be secured outside of West Hills.

This is beyond ridiculous. West Hills and Ashland Keepe are nice neighborhoods. We don't want duplexes that bring nothing but trash and crime. We currently are up to our ears with the apartment mess at the end of Broome Rd and now that new circus called the Rowan. I know the MPC doesn't give a [redacted] and will approve this anyway but this ridiculous. We don't want duplexes next to million-dollar homes. This is NOT California or New York. We do not want to be gentrified.

I live near the proposed project. The entire subdivision is single family detached homes. Converting to a duplex goes against the entire character of the neighborhood. I am firmly against this project.
