Town Hall East and the local residents met with the developer regarding this property. It was a productive meeting, but at this time, we are requesting that the R-3 designation be declined. We will work with the developer to come up with a more appropriate use of the property that addresses traffic issues and the privacy of the neighboring residents.
Development in the area between Strawberry Plains Pk., Asheville Hwy, John Sevier Hwy and Brakebill Rd. is out of control. Infrastructure has not been sufficiently improved to allow for increased development. In the past several years hundreds of new homes have been built in the area. In addition commercial development in the area has added hundreds of loading bays for tractor trailers. The added traffic hinders resident's commutes and brings noise and exhaust to the neighborhood. These development are not in keeping with the rural character of the County. The lots are far too small, less than a 1/4 acre, and the housing is cheap..
