Local Food Guide Grows from PlanET Public Input
Folks across our region want to buy locally grown vegetables at neighborhood grocery stores and dine in restaurants that cook with local products.
One of the main themes to emerge from the PlanET public participation process was an expressed desire among area residents for better access to local food.
Based on that input, PlanET and Nourish Knoxville, Inc. are proud to announce the inaugural publication of the East Tennessee Local Food Guide.
The Food Guide, which will be available in print and online early this summer, lists local farms, artisan food sources, markets, and restaurants in a 50-mile radius of Knoxville. Local food suppliers in 11 counties ? Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Grainger, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, Morgan, Roane, Sevier, and Union?are included.
Nourish Knoxville is busy reaching out to farms, wineries, restaurants, and grocers even now, expanding the content of the draft Food Guide. When the printed version is available in a couple months, it will be a comprehensive resource that serves both food producers and consumers, allowing them to interact directly.
The print version of the Food Guide will be updated annually, while new information will be added to the online edition as available.
PlanET is asking for your help to ensure the final Guide represents all the great local food available in the region. Please review the draft online or request a print copy by emailing contact@planeasttn.org. If you or someone you know should be added, contact Charlotte Tolley at Nourish Knoxville by emailing info@nourishknoxville.org or calling (865) 405-3135.
