MPC Welcomes Dave Hill
It's been more than a decade since MPC first welcomed Dave Hill to the Knoxville area, and commissioners and staff are happy to have him rejoin the team.
On April 28, Hill began his tenure as MPC's Deputy Director and Comprehensive Planning Manager.
After serving several months as MPC Executive Director in 2003 and 2004, Hill was hired by then-Mayor Bill Haslam to be the City's Chief Operating Officer and Director of South Waterfront Development. He left the City with the change of administration and has more recently been working on affordable housing policies and programs in Asheville, North Carolina.
Hill is looking forward to the change his new position will bring. "I'm very pleased to move back into a planning role, especially here in the Knoxville region. I want to be a part of the process to facilitate public discussion and decision-making that will benefit citizens well into the future," he said.
Is he intimidated by the prospect of replacing local planning icon, Mike Carberry? Not at all! "I won't even try to replace Mike?nobody could. His legacy and 30-year imprint on the Knoxville area are a testament to his professionalism and dedication to public service. Mike's knowledge and experience will be sorely missed."
Outside the office, Dave enjoys reading, gardening, and the peace and quiet of being at home with his wife, Kathy, and their two Boston Terriers. Dave and Kathy have been married for 33 years and have three daughters, Katie, a lawyer, and Rachel and Sarah, who are both approaching graduation at UT-Knoxville.
"I enjoyed my brief stay at MPC and am looking forward to renewing the working relationships built then, so we can serve the citizens of Knoxville and Knox County well.
