Welcome Scott Smith, MPC's Newest Commissioner
Scott Smith, a Knoxville native and President of Volunteer Realty, became MPC's newest Planning Commissioner in September.
A University of Tennessee graduate in economics, Smith has worked as a commercial and residential real estate broker and as a property developer. He also has extensive experience in commercial management and leasing. He is a longtime member of the Home Builders Association of Greater Knoxville and the Knoxville Area Association of Realtors.
Before becoming a Planning Commissioner, Smith served the community on the board of Knoxville Habitat for Humanity and the Knox County Board of Zoning Appeals.
His goal as a Planning Commissioner is to ensure all citizens have a voice in the process and are treated fairly for the betterment of our community, making certain that reasonable consideration is given to all parties affected by land use decisions.
Smith replaces Brian Pierce, who served on the Planning Commission from 2010 to 2014. Our gratitude is extended to Brian for his many years of service.
The Planning Commission is an advisory board comprised of 15 citizens?seven appointed by the Knoxville Mayor and eight by the Knox County Mayor. These volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and represent a broad spectrum of community interests and concerns. They serve staggered four-year terms without compensation and may be re-appointed.
