Brooks Earns National Accreditation
Amy Brooks, a principal planner for the Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organization (TPO), was accepted as a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) in April.
Brooks has been with TPO for more than seven years and is most widely known as the project manager for the regional planning effort known as PlanET. Her work experience, training, and successful navigation of the membership exam garnered the certification.
Brooks holds a Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning with an emphasis on Transportation Planning from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and Political Science from Maryville College.
"Amy has done fantastic work for TPO?and the entire Knoxville region?during the PlanET process," said Jeff Welch, Director of TPO. "She's a wonderful addition to the American Institute of Certified Planners."
Before joining TPO, Brooks worked as a transit consultant, a researcher for small nonprofits, and as a planner at regional, county, and local levels. Her career took her to Washington, DC, Ann Arbor, MI, and northern California before returning to East Tennessee in 2007.
In addition to membership in AICP, Brooks is a founding member of Slow Food Tennessee Valley, an active member of the East Tennessee chapter of U.S. Green Building Council, and a board member of East Tennessee Quality Growth. In 2013, she was selected as one of the Knoxville Business Journal's 40 under 40.
Brooks joins a number of MPC and TPO colleagues who also are AICP members: Jeff Archer, Tom Brechko, Mike Brusseau, Kaye Graybeal, Mike Reynolds, and Jeff Welch.
Congratulations, Amy!
