Laura Edmonds Joins Planning Staff

Laura Edmonds comes to Knoxville-Knox County Planning from nearby Oak Ridge where she worked as an Administrative Associate II for the City Legal Department and City Manager’s Office.

Laura is originally from Maryville, graduating from Maryville High School in 2007. After graduation, she attended East Tennessee State University, majoring in sport and leisure management with a concentration in parks and recreation. After earning her degree, she was given the opportunity to work in the Development Services Department for the City of Johnson City. She worked there for four years providing administrative support to five different departments: Planning, GIS, Code Enforcement, Community Development and Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization (MPO). This role allowed her to work closely with both the Johnson City Regional Planning Commission and City Council. Her responsibilities included meeting preparation, updating online information, and creating quarterly reports and newsletters to keep citizens engaged in community development.

In order to move closer to family, Laura accepted a position with the City of Oak Ridge Legal Department/City Manager’s Office, where she was able to expand her administrative experience. During her time in Oak Ridge, Laura was primarily responsible for the preparation of legal documents, filing and organization of legal contracts, and acting as staff liaison for the Oak Ridge Beer Permit Board.

The experience she gained in these administrative roles prepared for her responsibilities with Knoxville-Knox County Planning.

When she isn’t at work, you will probably find Laura staying active with her family. Laura is married with two young boys, Mason and Parker, who keep her busy. They recently purchased a home in West Knoxville and look forward to renovating it and making it their own. She spends her evenings at ball fields and weekends exploring Knoxville or supporting University of Tennessee Athletics! Go Vols!
