Knoxville Featured in Zoning Practice
The June 2020 edition of Zoning Practice explores the evolution of and recent trends in industrial zoning, looking at the City of Knoxville as a case study.
A recent update to the city’s zoning code provided an opportunity to embrace some of these trends in ways that enhance the city’s creative identity. Etsy’s designation of Knoxville as a “Maker City” in 2016 has led to an increase in the reuse and redevelopment of spaces that are geared toward crafts and artisanal products. The new zoning code allows for industrial uses of this type including craft, design, microbreweries, microdistilleries, microwineries, and research and development.
These updates are helping Knoxville adapt to new trends and take advantage of unique opportunities for redevelopment that are close to the city’s urban core.
