Senior Population Report Available in Interactive Format

In April, Planning released the study, Senior Population in Knox County, an addition to its Technical Report series. As a companion to the report, staff recently completed a story map that presents the same information, but with interactive maps and in a format that is screen reader compatible.

Both the report and story map show Knox County’s senior population is expected to grow twice as fast as the general population over the next several years, to more than 125,000 by 2030.

With this shift, local communities will have to consider new strategies to accommodate senior needs. The most pressing of those are affordable housing, healthcare and disability management, and mobility.

For additional details on these and other issues related to Knox County’s seniors, explore the story map or technical report.

Planning’s Technical Report series includes topics such as housing, demographics, transportation, and more, all available on Planning’s website.
