Former AmeriCorps Member Joins Staff

Welcome to Jace Swain-Crowley, Planning’s newest GIS team member!

Jace was born in Maryland, but spent his childhood in the Memphis area. He stayed there until he moved across the state to Knoxville to attend the University of Tennessee. Jace graduated from UT in the spring of 2021 with a degree in geography and a minor in history. Through his coursework, he developed a particular interest in geographic information systems (GIS).

Jace is also interested in the environment, and that curiosity led him to AmeriCorps. He was attracted to Knoxville’s CAC group because of their focus on sustainability and recognized the program as an opportunity to grow professionally. He was able to achieve these goals and become familiar with our agency last year as he served a term in AmeriCorps working with the Knoxville Regional TPO. During that time, he helped with outreach, special events, the Smart Trips and I Bike KNX programs, and some GIS projects. Not only did Jace’s term as an AmeriCorps member provide an opportunity to serve the Knoxville area, it turned out to be an audition for a career with Planning.

Jace joined Planning’s staff full-time a few weeks ago as a GIS Specialist. In his new role, he will spend his time on GIS work that supports our work program. His routine projects will include slope analysis, agenda maps, electric vehicle charging station locations, and student enrollment projections.

When he’s not in the office, you can find Jace hiking, working out at the YMCA, beer tasting, and playing video games.

He’s also a fan of seeing movies, especially anything Marvel, in the theater.

Jace has been a huge asset to our agency over the past year and we are so excited to have him join our team full-time!
