Nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, Knoxville is consistently named among the nation’s best places to live. The beautiful landscape, moderate, four-season climate, and below average cost of living, accompanied by abundant outdoor adventure destinations, special events, and cultural venues are just a few of the reasons why.
Knoxville continues to grow, and according to moving and storage company PODS, Knoxville ranked 8th in the nation for move-ins. Forty-two percent of Knox County’s population aged 25 or older has a bachelor's degree or higher, and Knoxville is home to the University of Tennessee’s flagship campus and Tennessee’s largest community college, Pellissippi State.
Though lower than the national average, median home and rent prices have continued to climb. The unemployment rates for Knoxville and Knox County are also lower than the national average at 3.2% and 3% respectively. The top industry categories for our region remain education and health services and professional and business services, with many high-profile companies, five business parks, and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory found here.
Knoxville is not just a great place for people, but for pets as well. “Welcome to Barxville, A Knoxville Dogumentary” was released last year by Visit Knoxville, and Knox County boasts 17 dog parks. Tommy Shumpert Park was just ranked #2 in the USA Today Reader’s Choice Awards for Best Dog Park.
