How to Change Your Address
If you have been informed of an address change for your residence or business, this pamphlet may help you with the process. The property owner is responsible for notifying all tenants/lessees of the new address for space they are renting or leasing.
United States Postal Service
Submit a permanent change of address online at www.usps.com for a small fee. You can also obtain a change of address form at your local post office, which may be submitted in person for free with your photo ID. After changing your permanent address, the U.S. Postal Service will forward mail to your new address for six months. You can request to have mail forwarding extended for an additional 6, 12 or 18 months.
TN Driver's License
You are required to notify the TN Department of Safety and Homeland Security of an address change within 10 days. Submit a change of address online at www.TN.gov/safety or in person at a Driver Services Center. A license with the new address will be provided upon request and payment of the fee.
Local Utility and Service Providers
Notify providers of your new service address. These include phone, internet, cable, electric, water, gas, etc.
Knox County Property Assessor
Change the mailing address for your property (where your tax bills should be delivered) by visiting https://property.knoxcounty.org. The form must be signed and completed by the property owner or their representative and then mailed to the Property Assessor’s Office. This form will change the mailing address for both the city and county tax office.
Tenants
If you have rental property, you must notify all tenants of the new address.
Knox County Voter Registration
Change your address online through the TN Online Voter Registration System accessed via voter resources at www.knoxcounty.org/election. This system requires a TN driver’s license or Department of Safety and Homeland Security ID. Optionally, request a change of address form by phone at 865.215.2480 or in person at the county courthouse or Knox County Clerk’s office.
