APPROVE. Proposed work is at the rear of the building. The design guidelines, which allowed work at the rear of buildings to accommodate retrofitting to current building and fire codes. Front façade work was approved in February. (12203MKT).

    • Demolish rear loading dock and stairs, not original to building and installed c. 1960, for eventual purpose of constructing fire-rated emergency access to first and second stories. Remove masonry infill in original window openings and install wood double hung windows in the original openings.

Market Square H-1
    • Style: Vernacular Commercial (c.1882)
    • Fenton-Burrier Building. Two story brick building with double hung windows, recessed paired entries, square columns, cornice with modillions duplicating cornice on #31 Market. Corbelled cornice with limestone band and arched section, stone stringcourse, and sills with brick dentil mold. Red brick surface with white or buff brick outlining window arches.
    • W. B. Fenton and Thomas Keohoe, marble merchants, occpied half of this storefront from 1882 to 1892 while T. A. Burrier, lock and gunsmith, occupied the remainder. In 1890, Burrier shared his portion of the building with J. T. Gritman, who dealt in sewing machines. Burrier continued to be an occupant until 1900, when Howard Karnes, saddlery, occupied the entire building. After 1910, the building was occupied by restaurants, dry goods stores, a tobacco shop and grocery stores, and a Cas Walker's Grocery in 1950.
